Bachelor of Arts

The following requirements must be met for admission to the Bachelor's degree program

  • Timely application with all required attachments
  • Transfer of the application fee of € 30 (fees are paid via the application portal)
  • Passing the regulated aptitude test
  • Sufficient proof of written and spoken German language skills

All application documents must be submitted online via the portal
All documents/information are requested or uploaded in the applicant portal.
The application portal is open between April 23 and October 6, 2025.

  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form
  • Copy of birth certificate or copy of identity card
  • Copy of last school report
  • A passport photo with name 
  • A general medical certificate (not older than 6 months)
  • Proof of paid application fees of € 30.00 (copy of bank statement or cash payment receipt)
  • To be submitted to the commission on the day of the examination: Repertoire list in seven copies

The aptitude test is divided into three stages: Aptitude test level I, level II and level III. The prerequisite for admission to aptitude test level II is passing aptitude test level I. The prerequisite for admission to aptitude test level III is passing aptitude test level II.

Aptitude test I - III
The examination takes place in the classrooms of the Theaterakademie in the Prinzregententheater, Prinzregentenplatz 12 in Munich.

The following must be prepared for the aptitude test:

  • at least five songs (at least one of which must be in English);
  • of which a.) one musical scene;
  • of which b.) four further songs (maximum one song from the non-musical area)
  • one folk song a cappella (key of own choice)
  • one own choreography of at least one minute
  • at least one acting monologue in German
  • one short prose text or a poem (all to be performed by heart)
  • two instrumental pieces: either both on the piano or one on an instrument to be brought along, one on the piano
  • In addition, elementary knowledge of musicology/ear training (determining intervals, basic knowledge of harmony) is tested in level III aptitude tests.

A written copy of the repertoire list must be submitted to the examination board in 7 copies for the performance!

The following applies to all examination rounds:

Pianists from the academy are available. However, it is also possible to bring your own pianist.
The applicant must bring their own sheet music (neatly glued and clearly legible; transposed if necessary) to all examination rounds.
Dance or training clothing is required for the movement tests.
For the own choreography, the music must be brought along on a sound carrier (USB stick, smartphone, CD or MC).

Aptitude test level I

In the aptitude test level I, the:applicant:may select the first performance. The examination board may interrupt and decide on further performances. If one of the vocal numbers, the monologue, the poem or the choreography is not or only partially prepared, the aptitude test level I will be assessed as “failed”. The dance examination takes place in the group. Passing the aptitude test level I entitles the candidate to take part in the aptitude test level II.

Aptitude test level II

The examination board selects the performances. The examination board will set tasks to test the vocal and musical abilities, acting imagination and scenic intelligence of the applicants. If one of the vocal numbers, the monologue, the poem or the choreography is not or only partially prepared, the aptitude test level II will be assessed as “failed”. A musical choreography will be developed in the group. Passing the aptitude test level II entitles the candidate to participate in aptitude test level III.

Aptitude test level III

  1. Performance of a musical song of the examination board's choice from the material brought along
  2. Group improvisation
  3. Choreography from aptitude test level I and II tested without repetition
  4. Instrumental performance
  5. Musicology/aural training

The examination board is not obliged to test applicants on all points. Advice is not possible!

Decision on admission to the degree program:

The results of the examination rounds are communicated to the applicants at the end of the respective rounds. This also applies to admission to the degree program. As a rule, the aptitude test can be repeated twice if it is not passed.

The standard period of study for the Bachelor of Arts degree is 6 semesters:
The first two semesters are regarded as a probationary period in accordance with the statutes of the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts dated 13.03.2001.

The application portal for submitting application documents for the summer semester 2026 is open between April 23 and October 6, 2025.

The aptitude tests are then as follows:

Master of Arts

THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET FOR ADMISSION TO THE MASTER'S PROGRAMME

  • A first professionally qualifying university degree or equivalent qualification from Germany or abroad in the subject area of musical theatre, singing, dance or acting
  • Timely application with all required attachments.
  • Transfer of the application fee of € 30 (only after passing the aptitude test level I).
  • Passing the regulated aptitude test at the Bayerische August Everding

The application procedure for the Master of Arts in Musicals starting in the winter semester 2025 will be activated on 17 March 2025.
All application documents must be submitted online via the portal. 

  • Copy of the identity card
  • Copy of the last certificate
  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form
  • Medical certificate confirming current state of health, fitness and physical fitness for the requirements of the musical theatre training programme (not older than 6 months)
  • Phoniatric certificate or detailed certificate from an ear, nose and throat doctor (not older than 6 months)
  • Copies of other academic or professional qualifications
  • Certificate of enrolment from the current university, if applicable
  • Letter of motivation (approx. one page)
  • Upload of a video with musical works of your own choice (playing time at least 15 minutes; at least one musical scene with choreography and dialogue)

You must also bring the following to the level II aptitude test

  • Copy of the transfer of the registration fee (€ 30)
  • Completed repertoire list with the prepared programme (ten vocal numbers and three acting monologues)

The three-semester Master's degree program begins in the winter semester. The next semester is September 2025.
The application deadline for the aptitude test is 09.06.2025.

The aptitude test is divided into two stages:

  • Aptitude test stage I: Examination of the documents. Invitation to stage II based on passing stage I.
  • Aptitude procedure stage II: 07.07.2025

Failure to pass the aptitude procedure stage I as well as the aptitude or invitation to stage II will be notified in writing.

The first stage of the aptitude test is the submission of the application documents.

The second stage of the aptitude test consists of a practical examination (duration approx. 20 minutes). Applicants must prepare (by heart):

  • ten vocal numbers from different musical styles with a total duration of at least 30 minutes (at least three numbers each in German and English; at least two vocal numbers with choreography; at least one pop song; at least one chanson; at least two up-tempo songs; at least two ballads) two ballads)
  • In addition, a choreography of the candidate's choice (possibly with vocals) and style (duration: at least one minute; the music can be played from a recording medium [CD or MC])
  • Three acting monologues in a staged performance (at least one classical and at least one modern acting monologue; at least two acting monologues in German)

The examination board selects the works to be performed. If one of the works mentioned is not or only partially prepared, the aptitude test will be assessed as “failed”.

The examination board may also set practical improvisation tasks from the fields of dance, music and acting in order to test the applicants' talent for improvisation (ability to change, adapt to given work tasks, change rehearsed behavior patterns).

Seven copies of the program chosen by the applicant must be submitted in writing to the examination board before the start of the examination.

The Theaterakademie will provide piano accompanists; own piano accompanists are permitted. The sheet music for the piano accompaniment must always be provided by the applicants themselves.

In addition, a short musical choreography will be developed with the applicants as part of the examination. This examination will be assessed according to the following criteria

  • talent for movement
  • artistic and dance expression
  • ability to rehearse complex, staged movement sequences

The three-semester Master's programme starts in the winter semester. The next start date is September 2025.

The aptitude tests for the winter semester 2025 are as follows:

  • Aptitude procedure stage I: Examination of documents. Invitation to level II based on passing level I.
  • Stage II aptitude test: 07 July 2025
